Porvoo is a diamond!
Porvoo is a diamond among Finnish cities. How would these delicacies taste: Finland's oldest Town Hall, Albert Edelfelt's paintings, a visit to a private "castle", lunch at the wonderful RUNO Hotel, the delicacies of a chocolate factory, Porvoon Pieni Suklaatehdas?
The day begins with a guided walking tour through the alleys of the old town. The guide also takes you to the Old Town Hall, where the focus of the visit is the museum's diamonds: Albert Edelfelt's paintings, Ville Vallgren's sculptures and the art nouveau interior ensembles of the Iris factory.
We enjoy a tasty lunch at RUNO Hotel. Before lunch the guide tells us the story of the hotel. One of the highlights is a visit to the private Porvoo Castle. The castle is a merchant building from the 18th century, which has been visited by Swedish kings Gustav III, Gustav IV Adolf, and the Russian tzar Alexander I. During the visit we hear about the incredible stages of the castle. A little free time will be reserved for shopping in the lovely boutiques in old town.
Finally, a visit to the chocolate factory, Porvoon Pieni Suklaatehdas, on your own. Chocolate master/entrepreneur Peter Westerlund has won several international and prestigious chocolate awards.
